Peru’s public sector to phase out single-use plastics in June 2019

Peru’s Ministry Board approved a ‘Supreme Decree’ on 2 November 2018 that effectively bans all public entities in the country from using single-use plastic items. The federal ban will include Styrofoam, plastic bags, straws, and other similar types of plastic that are not biodegradable. This law will come into full effect in 180 days. However, the ban will come to effect in 30 days for national parks, public museums, and national heritage sites.
