Kingdom of Bahrain bans plastic to save its marine life
The Kingdom of Bahrain has initiated plans to completely ban the use of plastic bags. The country was particularly hit hard by plastic waste pollution since the oil industry booms, which is on the decline. Because of this increase in pollution, the country joined the 2018 UN Environment’s Programme’s global Clean Seas campaign.
Since then, June 2019 marked the beginning of a nationwide effort to ban and phase out single-plastic, taking measures such as increasing recycling bins throughout residential areas, and environmentally-conscious education being introduced in schools.
