Tanzania is the latest African nation to ban plastic bags
As of the 1st of June 2019, Tanzania became the 34th African nation to ban plastic bags. The country is banning “the importation, production, sale, and use of plastic bags.”
Tourists who come to Tanzania will also have to obey the new ban. Travellers are asked to ‘surrender’ their plastic bags before entering the country.
Samia Suluhu Hassan, Tanzania’s vice-president, announced in a statement: "The government expects that, in appreciation of the imperative to protect the environment and keep our country clean and beautiful, our visitors will accept minor inconveniences resulting from the plastic bags ban."
