A ban on single-use plastic bags passed the Washington Senate on the 5th of March 2019. The bill will ban stores from providing single-use plastic bags to consumers and will also require recycled paper bags to contain at least 40 per cent recycled material. If the bill passes the state House, businesses will have one year to use up existing single-use plastic bags before facing a 250 USD fine for violations.
