McDonald’s and Starbucks form alliance to build recyclable cup of the future

McDonald’s and Starbucks have launched a new initiative together, the NextGen Cup Challenge, towards developing a fully recyclable and compostable cup by 2021, which may also include a lid and straw.

The fast-food giants have created a $10 million fund to provide grants to entrepreneurs for good ideas to develop materials and designs that can replace today’s cups and help start-ups work together to combine them into market-ready solutions.
