FreiburgCup (Germany): a city-wide deposit-based scheme for reusable coffee cups

Another not-so-new concept but still NEEDING to be copied worldwide: The FreiburgCup, a reusable, deposit-based scheme for coffee cups in the German city of, you guessed it, Freiburg.

Putting down one euro (1.17 dollar) gets customers a reusable cup at one of the more than 110 participating venues, and returning the cup at any of them will get them their euro back, or they can exchange them for another, clean one.

Obviously, schemes like these would massively benefit from extra charges whenever coffee in a single-use cup is purchased, making it an absolute no-brainer and money-saver to get (and reuse) the FreiburgCup. To be continued, no doubt.
