Reading University (UK) trialling 'Sustain It' vending machines, letting students refill reusable bottles with built-in microchips
Reading University (UK) is trialling the Sustain It scheme, which allows students to swipe a reusable bottle with built-in microchip to refill with all kind of beverages from a vending machine.
The scheme was first launched by Coca-Cola in the US, and Reading is the first place in the UK to trial the service.
Since launching in September 2017, the university says it has cut down on plastic bottles by 40%, and Reading is now hoping to phase out plastic bottles and single-use cups entirely. More at Sky.
