London-based start-up creates Ooho: edible water bubbles
Sustainable packaging start-up Skipping Rocks Lab, based in London, has created ‘edible water bubbles’. The product, called Ooho, is made 100% of plants & seaweed, biodegradable in 4-6 weeks, and edible (it has a shelf life of a few days) just like a piece of fruit.
Ooho bubbles create five times less CO₂ and nine times less energy than the equivalent in PET material. The spherical flexible packaging can also be used for other liquids including soft drinks, spirits and cosmetics.
The company is currently busy getting a fully-automated production line up and running, and expect material costs to be lower than plastics.
Like the biodegradable bottles we featured yesterday, this is yet another promising solution for those instances when reusable bottles are not an option.
