UK government proposes deposit return scheme for bottles and cans in England
Disposable drink containers sold in England will soon be covered by a deposit return scheme (DRS), subject to consultation with producers, suppliers and consumers, the UK government has announced.
In a move welcomed by environmental campaigners, the proposed DRS would cover all single-use drinks containers, whether made from plastic, glass or metal.
The DRS would likely see reverse vending machines installed in supermarkets, where glass bottles, plastic bottles and metal cans are deposited in return for the initial deposit. More at the Guardian
