The Golden Temple in Amritsar, India, to go plastic-free this April

The world famous Golden Temple in Amritsar, India, which provides free meals to up to 100,000 people a day, will replace the use of plastic carry bags with biodegradable carry bags, made of corn and wheat, starting April 1.

Currently, as much as 20,00 kilos worth of plastic bags are used in the Golden Temple per year, along with thousands of kilos of plastic packaging for  'pinni parshad' (sweets handed out to the temple's pilgrims). More at ScoopHoop.
