Los Angeles moves to ban plastic straws
The city of Los Angeles is considering a proposal to ban all restaurants in the city from using single-use plastic straws. The proposal already backed by the city council would go into effect in 2021. The ordinance will bring the Bureau of Sanitation to work closely with the Department of Disability to mitigate the phase-out’s impacts on the disabled community, as there are medical and accessibility concerns for using products such as paper straws. The bureau is also advised to report on a list of alternatives that could be used by business owners.
