Salem County in the US holds a vote to ban single-use plastic bags

The Salem City Council is poised to ban single-use plastic bags in 2019. The ordinance will come to effect in April 2019 and provide businesses two deadlines, one in April and another in September 2019, depending on their size. The council also hopes to establish an effective compliance office to support the ban. The council voted to send the bill to a second reading on 13th November 2018, where it is expected to be adopted.
