Update: Chile bans single-use plastic bags in 102 coastal areas

Chilean president Michelle Bachelet signed a bill on the 24th October 2018 that bans single-use plastic bags in 102 coastal villages and towns. A fine equivalent to 300 USD will be imposed upon the businesses found to be distributing plastic bags. The ban was followed up with a plan to declare 1.6 million km2 of protected marine conservation areas by the end of 2018.
