The town of Solola in Guatemala bans single-use plastic bags

The mayor of the town of Solala has ordered a ban on all single-use plastic bags. The ban has also implemented a penalty system with fines reaching up to 650 USD. Artisan Mayan manufacturers in the town have pledged to ramp up their production and reduce their profit margins to bring back Mayan woven bags as a reusable option that people of the town can use instead of the single-use plastics.
