Tesco UK introduces a 'bring your own' container scheme and pays shoppers for returning plastic bottles

Tesco UK has introduced a bring your own container scheme in its UK locations. The scheme encourages customers to fill up their own containers at its deli counters instead of sorting to the plastic or cardboard options available in-store. Furthermore, the company has started to trial ‘recycling machines’ that will pay customers 10p GBP for each plastic bottle they return as part of a new sustainability scheme. This scheme includes a comprehensive roadmap to lowering the company’s footprint, with targets set, such as making all packaging fully recyclable or compostable by 2025.
