MSC Cruises to eliminate single-use plastics

Launching its Plastics Reduction Program, MSC Cruises announced that the company will phase out an extensive number of plastic items from all its ship and shore operations by the end of March 2019. The company said that these items will include single-use plastic shopping bags, spoons, glasses, and stirrers among other plastic items and environmentally damaging products as well as removing unnecessary packaging from food and beverage items. As the first phase of the implementation, the company will stop providing plastic straws as a default giveaway with drinks and will work to replace all plastic straws with 100 per cent compostable and biodegradable substitutes by the end of 2018.
