European Union votes to strengthen the EU Directive on single-use plastics

The Environment Committee of the European Parliament has voted to add provisions to the proposed EU Directive on single-use plastics. The amendments aim to strengthen the proposed ban that would go in to effect in 2021 with more items such as the addition of EPS (expanded polystyrene) packaging, oxo-degradable plastic packaging and mulch films to the list, items that are predominantly used in single-use packaging, cups, bags and containers. The vote moves to the final plenary vote on the 23rd of October 2018.
