KFC Hong Kong expands its single-use plastic reduction plans
KFC Hong Kong has announced its plans to further its plastic reduction program which launched in August 2018. The company reports that the first phase of the initiative has been a great success with the removal of plastic straws and lids from restaurant meals in Hong Kong. The franchise claims that some 1 tonne of single-use plastic items were prevented from reaching landfills in the 3 months’ time since the implementation in August 2018. As part of the expansion, KFC Hong Kong will move ahead with phasing out single-use plastic cutlery in their Hong Kong operations. Among other initiatives, KFC is testing a new three-finger plastic glove design (only to be used in cases of customer-concerns with hygiene) and testing biodegradable options for other plastic materials.
