D&D's 40 London restaurants and bars no longer give out plastic straws

D&D, the London group behind 40 restaurants and bars including Quaglino's, Le Pont de la Tour and Skylon, has banned plastic drinking straws from all its premises.

Last year, the company’s staff gave customers almost 1.9 million straws, of which just 44,000, or 2.3 per cent, were made from “eco-friendly” materials. D&D now plans to cut the number of straws by 50 per cent, and none of the straws remaining would be made from plastic.

D&D joins UK pub chains Wetherspoon (which announced a few months ago that it would stop stocking plastic straws — having used 70 million a year) and All Bar One, which announced last June it would be phasing out its 4.7 million straws a year. More at the Evening Standard.
