Update: EU agrees to extend its ban on single-use plastics

After a marathon round of discussions and negotiations which lasted 12.5 hours, European Union institutions came to a provisional agreement to ban more single-use plastic items from the union. The EU passed a landmark bill in October 2018, banning many single-use plastic items such as plates, straws and cutlery which constitutes about 70 percent of marine litter. The new law agrees to ban more items such as single-use packaging and fast-food containers by 2021.
